The President who said he’d do so much winning, America would get tired of it, now seems determined to lose the 2020 election over and over again.
Donald Trump’s self-proclaimed “elite strike force” of lawyers has now lost or withdrawn 30 legal challenges. And a growing number of Republicans — like Pennsylvania Sen. Pat Toomey — are admitting publicly there is no evidence for claims of vast fraud or global conspiracy. Consider what conservative Pennsylvania judge Matthew Brann said Saturday, as he threw out a case brought by Trump’s lawyer Rudy Giuliani that sought to disenfranchise 7 million voters:
“One might expect that when seeking such a startling outcome, a plaintiff would come formidably armed with compelling legal arguments and factual proof of rampant corruption, such that this Court would have no option but to regrettably grant the proposed injunctive relief despite the impact it would have on such a large group of citizens. That has not happened. Instead, this Court has been presented with strained legal arguments without merit and speculative accusations, unpled in the operative complaint and unsupported by evidence.”
No wonder even Trump’s friend, former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, pronounced the President’s lawyers a “national embarrassment”on Sunday.
Trump may aim to ruin Joe Biden’s presidency by convincing half the country it is illegitimate, to provide himself a rationale for a possible 2024 revenge run and to keep 70 million customers … er voters … engaged. But the truth is, this election wasn’t even that close. Biden leads in the popular vote by 6 million. He took five battlegrounds from the outgoing President’s 2016 map. And he walked away with 306 electoral votes — what Trump in happier days called “a landslide.”
